Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s Disease

In recent decades, the number of cases of hypothyroidism has increased significantly, especially autoimmune hypothyroidism (Hashimoto’s disease), with a particularly alarming rise among women.

This condition is caused by a dysfunction of the thyroid gland due to chronic inflammation triggered by an “attack” from our own immune system against the thyroid.

Conventional treatment strategies are usually based on the lifelong administration of synthetic thyroid hormones as replacement therapy.

This treatment leads to an artificial increase of T4 levels in the blood due to the intake of the hormone. The pituitary gland detects that circulating hormone levels appear normal and consequently reduces the secretion of TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone).

When TSH levels decrease, the thyroid receives less stimulation. Over time, together with the ongoing chronic inflammatory process, the gland may gradually become atrophic and lose its function, which ultimately creates a lifelong dependence on replacement hormone therapy.

Considering a different therapeutic approach is not usually part of conventional medical practice.

However, it is possible to address the underlying causes of autoimmunity and inflammation, treating the condition at its root. By reducing inflammation, regulating immune function, improving insulin sensitivity in the thyroid and liver (which must convert T4 into T3, the active form of the hormone), and allowing TSH to properly stimulate the thyroid gland, we may achieve very promising results.

This approach requires close medical monitoring of each patient, regular evaluation of their progress and hormone levels, appropriate adjustments when necessary, ongoing medical support, and clear explanations of every therapeutic strategy.

It represents a different way of understanding this condition. As always, the goal is not simply to treat symptoms, but to identify and correct the metabolic imbalances that may contribute to the development of this disease.

Rosa was one of the first patients to place her trust in our approach.
Here is her testimonial.

"I can speak from my own experience and say that placing my full trust in our doctors, Esteban and Hurtado, and following their guidance—at a time when conventional medicine had practically given up on me and my health was worsening day by day, with more autoimmune diseases in addition to Hashimoto’s—has been what is now filling me with energy and improving my health.

The evidence is there; it’s not my imagination. It is real. It requires effort and some discipline, listening to our doctors and, above all, trust.

I chose to move away from treatments that were not helping me heal, and I will continue to follow their recommendations. The lifestyle change I began a year and a half ago has shown me a new path to health, and I feel confident continuing under their care."
